About the workshop: The workshop is a 2-hour overview of what it takes to learn ANY language. Jamila will review how to:
The workshop will be facilitated in English/Black English. While the workshop will cover strategies universal for all language learners, language-specific examples will only be provided for those learning Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
Who is this for: The workshop is designed for individuals proficient in English who are interested in learning Spanish, French, or Portuguese. It is also specifically designed for people who are interested or curious about language learning from an abolitionist, decolonial, and pro-Black/Indigenous perspective.
Accessibility Info/Requests: The workshop will be facilitated in English. Interpretation will be provided upon request for participants with the following dominant languages (i.e., languages they use more): ASL, French, Portuguese, Spanish. Jamila is a hearing, sighted language coach with experience learning spoken languages as a hearing and sighted person. While many of the insights shared in the workshop (especially re: reading and writing) include strategies that could be beneficial for Deaf & DeafBlind language learners, the workshop has been designed based on Jamila's lived and professional experience as a hearing and sighted person. Requests must be received by Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 11:59 pm.
